Izydor Marmur
When I was a young boy in Poland, my beloved uncle Carol gave me a set of watercolours and a few words of encouragement which established my conviction that I was destined to become an artist. Drawing, painting and making things from whatever materials I could get my hands on, was what I loved doing then and what I still love doing.
Before I turned thirteen, my family migrated to Australia. When the time came to make a career choice, it was clear it would be in the field of art, so I studied at Prahran College of the Arts and subsequently earned my living from graphic design and commercial art.
Fortunately, I was able to maintain a continuing involvement with fine art. I use a variety of media and techniques, and find that this allows me to explore new ways of expression for my ideas and feelings. I try to stay alert and attuned to my surroundings, to the people and the events that touch my life, so that I can hear what they have to say. And through my art, I try to show what I hear and to express my response to them.
